Abstract

The paper outlines a method for directly estimating specific pasture attributes associated with pasture quality and stability, such as leaf blade, legume and litter yield, percent bare ground and green cover, by visual techniques. These estimates can be performed independently of calibrated, visual estimation techniques used for determining total yield and species composition, such as BOTANAL, although normally they would be done in conjunction with them. Advantages of and limitations to the procedure are discussed.
