Abstract

The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) provides funding to support agricultural and natural resource management research in developing countries, prioritising research which is predicted to bring benefits to target countries and Australia. The commodity based, multi-regional research process model which is utilised to assess benefits and prioritise potential projects is outlined and discussed, together with the impact of forages on specific commodities. Regionally, ACIAR commits > 50% of its funding towards research for south-east Asia, with the remainder being directed towards south Asia, China, the south Pacific region and Africa. Priorities for future pasture research are outlined together with some specific challenges in the region.
