Tropical Grasslands (1997) Volume 31, 355358 The use of genetic markers to improve seed and RNB collection and genetic conservation C.J. LIU and R.A. DATE ATFGRC, CSIRO Tropical Agriculture, St Lucia, Queensland, Australia Abstract
To facilitate the maintenance and exploitation of germplasm held at the Australian Tropical Forages Genetic Resource Centre (ATFGRC), PCR-based molecular marker systems have been used to investigate genetic variation in Lablab purpureus, Stylosanthes scabra and RNB (root-nodule bacteria) collections, and to study genome relationships between "Stylosanthes seabrana" and S. scabra. These studies have demonstrated clearly that molecular markers are powerful tools for improving the efficiency of germplasm management.
